Wednesdays at Wakefield 2018 – #WAW18

Wednesdays at Wakefield with All the Construction Done
Get ready to enjoy another Summer’s worth of backyard mountain bike racing with Potomac Velo Club’s (PVC) epic four race training series! Now in our 16th Year of racing at Wakefield, PVC is gearing up for the first race in June 2018.

Starting on Wednesday, June 20th, 2018 @ 5:00 PM, PVC will kick off our first of four Wednesday races, each designed to give beginners and experts alike a chance to enjoy a rare weekday XC event. This year, our series will be held on June 20, June 27, July 11, and July 18, giving you some time in the middle to celebrate America’s Independence Day on July 4th.

What’s new for 2018?

The good news is that the construction is complete! Yeah! The bad news is that paved the CCT through the middle of the park. Boo! However, with the construction equipment and barriers finally out of the way, we have many new options — and maybe a few surprises — for you!

Now in it’s third year, we are continuing to support our growing Fat Bike (+3.5-inch tires) category, and will bring back the Women’s Single Speed category! If you want to see these two categories become a Wednesdays at Wakefield standard, please come out and support them!

We are also going to shake up the Masters’ category by adding a new division that gives the 50’s something their own age grouping. We’re still deciding how to restructure these categories for 2018, but be prepared for some changes to balance out these very popular races.

Finally, we’re going to change the price for the first time in 16 years. It won’t be much, but we will be providing a bigger benefit to those that pre-register online versus last minute race day registration. Why are we changing it? First, our operations costs have been going up year-over-year making the support for this event more difficult. Second, race day registration has made accurate timing a challenge. We’re hoping that by supporting online registration will help us improve timing.

That being said, if you want the old price, please make sure to use the online registration options!

Registration Opens on April 9th, 2017

PVC has some great ways to save this year!

The first way is to pre-register for one or more of our races using our Early Bird online registration options when it opens on April 9th, 2017.

The second way is to pre-register for the entire Wednesdays at Wakefield MTB Series by visiting our online registration site when it opens on April 9th, 2017. If you pre-register for the entire series, we will give you four race entries for the price of three!

The third way is to come out to one of our Trail Days and help us give Wakefield Park some trail love. Every year the park trails get overgrown, rutted out, and full of puddles that never go away. If you come out to one of our upcoming Trail Days and work at least 2-hours with PVC and MORE, we’ll give you one (1) race entry for free!

Like PVC’s Facebook page to get updates about our next Trail Days!

Building the Next Generation of Riders

Our friends over at Trails for Youth will return to Wakefield to continue to direct the Juniors racing part of Wednesdays at Wakefield starting at 5:30 PM (for  age groups Super Junior Boys/Girls 10 and Under, Juniors 11-12, and 13-14), and 6:00 PM for those Junior’s who are a bit faster (age groups Juniors 15-16 and 17-18).

PVC makes sure that 15% of all our race proceeds always go to Trails for Youth, and you can donate or volunteer to help their efforts by visiting them online or at their registration tent on race day.

Race in your Own Backyard

We look forward to having another awesome year of racing at Wakefield, and we hope you can get off work and come join us for some afternoon fun! Besides, think of all the traffic you’ll get to miss!
