Message from Greg K who was injured during W@W Race #3:
W@W staff and Racers,
My name is Greg K and I was injured at the W@W race last Wednesday night. I wanted to provide you a quick update on my status but more importantly I want to thank the members of your Staff and the individual racers who sacrificed their race to care for me.
I am still not entirely sure what I did--but as result of flying over my bike and landing hip first I sustained 3 fractures to my pelvis. Needless to say I think I'm gonna miss the final race of the season! Fortunately the fractures are non-operable but will require several months of recovery time. I'll heal fully and will be back stronger next year.
When I hit I knew something was wrong as I felt my hips snap. As I calmly asked someone for help (read: screamed incoherently for 15 minutes) several racers stopped and rendered aid. Many of them had some medical training and all kept a good eye on me for 45 minutes while the ambulance made it's way to me. They then assisted the EMTs with carrying all 200lbs of me down the hill.
I cannot thank those guys enough. I have never felt pain like that in my life and having those guys, all strangers, caring for me meant the world to me. I will never forget the kindness you paid to me and my family and we thank each of you from the bottom of our hearts. I hope some day I can repay that kindness on someone else in need. Each of you made this world a better place that night.
I hope to see you all out there next year!
W@W staff. If possible-- can you assist me in getting this message to your race participants from last Wed? Defer to you on best method-- post on your site, email blast, whatever. I just want to share my thanks with all those who helped me. Please let me know your thoughts.
Keep ridin'!
Greg
