General info

for 2009; This is a USA Cycling sanctioned event, as the rider, you are responsible for knowing the rules for the race in which you are racing.   Feeding during competition is prohibited. Non-licensed riders must purchase a one-day license (additional $10 fee) during registration. All categories scored for MAC points.

Course

The Capital Cross Classic course is located on the grounds of Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, Virginia. It is roughly 3.1k in length and consists of a paved start and finish, grass and hard pack terrain, a paved descent and some off camber turns. The course will have one man-made obstacle and 2 natural obstacles. you can find a current course map here. Start Area/Rider Call-ups: The start line is located 250 meters before the finish line. Riders will be staged at the start pen and call-ups will be based on MAC points and order of registation. For the safety and respect of all racers, warming up on the course during races is prohibited. Violators will be disqualified. The course will be open for warm-ups during the 15 minutes preceeding each race.

There will be two separate buildings containing large, heated restrooms available throughout the day.

Registration

There will be a $10 late fee added to all races registered for on race day. Online registration closes Thursday, December 3 at 6PM. Race day registration opens at 8:00 AM and closes 1 hour prior to the start of each race, and will be strictly enforced. One day and annual licenses available at registration.

Licensing Requirements: A domestic USCF or NORBA license is acceptable for all other categories.

One-Day Licenses, and Annual licenses, will be available at the registration booth. Consult USA Cycling for licensing costs at www.usacycling.org.

Trips For Kids / Metro Washington DC Proceeds from the race will benefit "Trips for Kids" (www.tfkmetrodc.org). Trips for Kids of Metro DC helps disadvantaged youth in the Metropolitan DC area learn important life lessons through fun and educational mountain bike excursions into Virginia, Maryland and DC parks and nature areas. The goal of these trips is to bring some fun and excitement to the stressful life of today's DC area youths. These trips also provide the opportunity to educate children about important issues such as self-worth and responsibility, health, nutrition, environment, careers, and other topical issues. Kids leave from their adventure with a sense of accomplishment, a fond memory and new knowledge about themselves and their world.

Directions
The race is held just past the entrance gatehouse of Lake Fairfax. Google Map address; 1400 Lake Fairfax Dr - Reston, VA 20190

Take I-95 to the Capitol Beltway (I-495) and exit onto the Dulles Toll Road (Rt. 267). Pay a 50¢ toll. Travel on the toll road for 6 miles and then take Exit 14 onto Hunter Mill Road. Pay a 25¢ toll. Turn right at the traffic light and travel on Hunter Mill for 2 miles. Turn left at the first traffic light onto Baron Cameron Avenue. Travel on Baron Cameron for 0.1 miles and then turn left at the first intersection onto Lake Fairfax Drive. Take the road into the park, past the gatehouse, and follow the signs to the race parking. Out of state travel info; There are 2 major airports located within a reasonable driving distance (less than 1 hour) and rail services within the greater Washington DC region. Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Reagan National (DCA). Union Station is a major hub for the Amtrak Train Service.

  • **Potomac Velo Club will offer to shuttle anyone to and from the airport/train station given that we have at least 5 days advance notice of your travel time and schedule.
