About Us

A Small Club with a Big Mission

pvc_mountain_bikers_2012-600x450The Potomac Velo Club (PVC) was founded in 1992 to promote the sport of cycling. Based in Northern Virginia, membership consists of riders at all levels of cycling experience. Some members have been on the racing scene for over 20 years, while others are just starting out. Some excel on the road (RR, ITT, TTT, CRIT), others venture into mountain biking (XC, XCC, STXC, DH, UH, DS, EN), cyclocross (CX) and even track arenas. PVC also maintains a small but aggressive adventure racing (AR) and mountain bike orienteering (MTBO) element that tends to tackle anything mountain bike related. Membership is open to all, no specific skills or experience is required.

Cycling Event Production

One of Potomac Velo Club’s strongest features is the promotion of yearly cycling events consisting of mountain bike and cyclocross races. PVC promotes a spring regional level USA Cycling AMBC mountain bike race in Hagerstown, Maryland called The Greenbrier Challenge, a Summer mountain bike 4-race series at Wakefield Park in Annandale, Virginia, called Wednesdays at Wakefield, and a Fall cyclocross race at Lake Fairfax Park in Fairfax, Virginia called “Capitol Cross Classic”.
